Dr. Herschel Wallen earned his medical degree from the University of Michigan Medical School before completing his internal medicine residency at the University of Washington Medical Center and fellowship training in medical oncology at the University of Washington School of Medicine. His background also includes cancer research at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center and published research in oncology.
Dr. Wallen was drawn to hematology and oncology by the rapidly advancing and dynamic nature of the field. His interest in science and problem-solving, combined with an intrinsic desire to be of service to others, made oncology a natural fit.
Dr. Wallen approaches patient care as a collaborative process, taking into account each patient’s understanding of their diagnosis, individual goals and priorities when considering treatment options. He values the role of community-based cancer care in allowing patients to build ongoing relationships with the physicians and care teams guiding them through treatment.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Wallen enjoys spending time with his twin sons and staying active through activities such as skiing, hiking and running.
