“All patients have the right to know the truth (even if it is a hard truth) because no one except the patient knows how this truth might empower them. Also, all patients have the right to be cared for as if they were a family member or a close friend.“ Kim-Hien Dao, MD

After Dr. Kim-Hien Dao’s fellowship training at University of California at San Diego, she spent the first 10 years of her medical career at Oregon Health & Science University where she was a specialist in hematologic malignancies – including myelodysplastic syndromes, myeloproliferative neoplasms, and acute myeloid leukemia. She also had clinical expertise in marrow failure syndromes and bone marrow transplants. Dr. Dao’s NIH-funded laboratory investigated pre-leukemia changes in blood cells and mechanisms of leukemia development.

Upon realizing that she wants new career challenges and seeks to make a difference on a global level, she decided to make a bold career change to the pharmaceutical industry to help develop promising new drug therapies for cancer patients. She has been grateful for the opportunity to apply her medical and scientific skills toward this goal. Dr. Dao joins the Oregon Oncology Specialists clinic so that she can continue doing something that she is very passionate about – to provide evidence-based, personalized care to patients, and to do so with the highest level of respect and compassion, from the beginning to the end of the journey.
